Some additional pics.
Went to the right from Otter and got some decent Olive rockfish. Then went left of Otter just offshore ...not much success and then joined Ron way left, close to point Pinos. Clear water but for me it was the end of my dive.
We got a good assortment of black/blue rockfish 1 cab, John speared a nice female sheephead and a beautiful olive.
See photos.

hey alain,

can you see ron in that last photo? all i see is some green kelp and camoflage. i can't see where he is. the stringer seems to be floating and the fish just dangling. i guess that camo gear really works.

I had heard that there was a remnant population of sheepshead on the Carmel Bay side of the peninsula.  Cool that they are on the Monterey side too.

Nice strings guys.
Saltwater is the cure for everything that ails us,
sweat, tear or the sea.

i have seen quite a few sheephead out and about. i have seen more in carmel but on the monterrey side i see groups of them typically out around lovers point. they seem to stay together often. in carmel i see them out of stillwater and also out of monastery to the left side towards point lobos.

there is one that cruises around cannery row and underwater it looks as if its the size of a boogie board. sometimes when i dive there i'll just drop my gun to the bottom and stay on the surface. then when it comes around i'll dive down and see it swim away. its huge, i think the scuba divers see it on occasion. i must have been living there many years.

the only other place i have seen them that big is cortez banks and san clemente island.

down in baja we caught a few and made ceviche with clamato, limes and cilantro. i think that is the best way to make them but you have to check for worms or else you might become an unwilling participant to host a parasite.
