My Filipino friends,
One of my son's friends/coworker gave him a bottle of Tanduay 1854 Rum.  I have never heard of this. The bottle says it's aged 15 years.   I couldn't find it in any of the stores I shop, including Bevmo.  Does anyone know anything about this stuff?  Is it good and is it like anything I might be familiar with?  I spent some time in the Philippines in the 70s when I was in the Navy but San Miguel Beer was the only thing I ever drank.

I was never a drinker but I do remember drinking Tanduay (growing up in the Philippines) with some coca cola when I was about 15 years old (peer pressure). I can still taste it to this day  :smt078

I have no direct experience with this rum, but this site seems to have a bit of info: http://rumdood.com/2010/12/20/rum-review-tanduay-1854/

Put a little bit in a snifter and sip away!  :smt004

If it's too harsh add an ice cube or two...

Let us know how it is!!

If you like it and want to try some other aged rums that are available at BevMo I highly recommend the Flor De Cana 12 yr. old Centenario and their 18 yr old Gold Centenario.

Martin Give me some, The one Mooch referring (taste wise) to are standard poormans Tanduay commonly drinks by stamby (by standers) like me or sunog baga (lung burners) the one you got was one of its finest, one of my kind of rum as suggested try to mix with coke we used to mix it with beer lol and wake up on a place you have no idea where you at....if you like crisp taste then you will like this...trust me..I was a drinker in High School too..like mooch says peer pressure...

Martin,

It's no good.  Save it all for me when I see you.  The inside joke among golfers from here is that they go to the Philippines and then come back with a 15yr old.   :smt005

The last bottle I bought, brought me problems.. it's like $2.- at the 7-11 and wasnt sure if i could pack it.  I went to the duty free they charged me 20 bucks for the same 2.00 bottle! Worst of all, transferring in Japan, they tried to tell me I couldn't have it with me on the flight and tried to make me throw it away.  If it wasn't for the fact that I promised a friend that bottle I would have at that point!!

Its terrible stuff.  When I was in college over there, we only drink it if you couldn't afford to buy San Miguel beer.
Nasty taste.

There is a local Gin called Ginebra San Miguel, bad stuff too. You can't drink it straight and had to mix some 7 UP.
If we were in the province and didn't have 7 Up for a mixer, we would add Coconut juice.  We called the mix; Gin Buco. (Buco means Coconut)

I have a bottle here at home, it's strong.  Not as smooth as any other kind of rum that I've tatsted stateside, but freakin' strong.  Like Sledge said, crack it open and try it yourself  :smt003
