So I had a test in my Trigonometry class today, it was also the day to turn in accumulated homework. Homework is worth a measly 10 points. After hours of laboring over my homework I got 8 out of 10 on it, because I did not put the section review page numbers on my homework. I only put the section number. So I am super pissed that my teacher is anal retentive about frivolous stuff.

My homework solution is to turn in:

1. Cover Page
2. Table of Contents
   I. Book Information (edition, ISBN#, print date, author, etc)
II. Calculator Information (software version, hardware version, clock speed, etc)
   A. Section A
   B. Section B
   C. Section C
3. Annotated Bibliography
4. Index

This way there will be no question as to what problems I was working on and with because as we all know the section 2.5 Review can be found elsewhere then the end of section 2.5.

I feel your pain.  Keep in mind that one of the things you learn in college is how to please some ahole who controls your destiny.

That was the lesson I told my son was the most important, once he learned it, it didn't stop him from complaining but his grades sure improved....

I feel your pain too. My beauty queen college English teacher turned A++ paper into a D because I forgot to turn in the Table of Contents. Big smile on her face. I so wanted to punch her in the face.

As for my trig teacher, he was about 20 years past traditional retirement age. He graded papers according to the WRONG answers.

The most important thing you learn at college is:

How to figure out how to figure it out.

IN this case you figured out how to figure out how to get a better grade.
Though I would be careful about being too...err...sarcastic about that stupid a@@ requirement.

When you get to 401, I  recommend Quan Lee. I have him this semester and he's a solid instructor and his grading is straight forward.

lol, maybe I'm the only one here thinking this but........its two points bro, suck it up.  :smt002

IME....homework formatting is generally covered in the course syllabus or verbally before the first assignment is due.  It seems odd that this would not have been mentioned if the Prof. was gonna deduct points for incorrect formatting.  lol, if it was and you're bellyaching about it then you shoulda followed the directions  :smt002

Regardless, I think I agree with steve on the sarcasm, if the prof is an ass you'll just be shining the big spotlight back on yourself and inviting more scrutiny. I'd be content knowing that HW is actually worth anything, I took a handfull of stats, calc courses and recall HW being optional which weighted quiz/test scores heavily.

I understand its only two points. And the homework itself is only ten so its not a big chunk of the grade.

HW formatting is not coved in the syllabus. However she gave us verbal guidelines which was followed.

I have had many instructors like her who give very specific details on what to do for an assignment, then forget to mention some stupid formatting that I get docked points for.

I am an A to B student going for a Computer Science, Systems Programming Major. Believe me I do exactly what I am told... no more... no less.

I probably won't do anything it just rubs me the wrong way, as its not the first time and won't be the last.

That's a certainty.  Being able to deal with curveballs (including bs) is a learned skill in itself the better you are at rolling through it the further you'll go.

I graduated with one "B" keeping me from a 4.0 in my undergrad. In that particular course the instructor dropped me from an A to a B because I missed 5 classes. My response made her so angry she threw me out of her office. I said, "It seems to me that if I can miss 5 sessions and still score an A in points, then maybe the bigger problem here is your lazy teaching resulted in a class that is too easy."

When the grade is already posted and you know you won't have that instructor again you have the opportunity to be brutally honest.  :smt044

After earning a BS in Computer Sci and Masters of Ed in my 30s, the biggest lesson I learned is that school is a series of hoops designed to test not your knowledge, but your ability to adapt to many different environments to complete a task.  Some profs are great, others are not.  How you get thru is a lesson that you WILL use later in life.  Stick with it, the rewards are great.
