Hey Guys,

Planning to dive Stillwater with a buddy of mine tomorrow at 10:15am.  If anyone wants to join us please come on down.
Weather should be great and hoping the conditions are too.

Hey Guys,

Yesterday was beautiful, sunny skies, clear water.... but I was at work.  Woke up this morning in Salinas and it was sunny!! Cool I thought, going to be a great day to dive.  But like everyday for the last however many months, I drove home back into a thick fog.

Got home to an empty house, loaded the van up and texted my friends who I was planning on diving with.  We were all running a bit late and everyone got down to SWS around 10:30.  It was cloudy, cold, and a little windy.  Yaks on the beach, suits on, and away we went.  My buddy Alan headed outside the southern end of the Rock and I headed to the spot I lost my spear shaft a couple weeks ago.  He was in and at it and I started diving around to find the cave said spear shaft was stuck in.  Never did find it.  Oh well.

Vis wasn't as great as I had hoped.  Maybe 10'.  Really murky at that north end of the Rock, probably cause of the significant surge.  I found a couple really cool empty holes and that was about it.  Did I mention they were empty.....  Headed back to my yak and then out to Alan who was about 30 yards outside the souther end of the Rock.  I tied up and he said there were some fish about and I was stoked.  Jumped in and again the water was murky and the vis about 10'.  Got my s$#@ together, tried to relax and dove down.  Down, down, down.  Oh, there is the bottom; I really need to breathe.  Up, up, up....  Alan said it was only 20 to 25 feet.  I call B.S.

Tried to keep down there but it just wasn't happening for me.  Saw some pretty big perch, but I don't like perch so I let them be.  Dove around a bit more but decided that I was out of my league and got back into my yak to watch Alan and hang with my other buddy who was H and L ing it off a SUP.  Alan came up and said there was a big school of "fat blues" where he was, so I headed over there and got back in the water.  Never did see that school.  I did see one blue but he was short so I let him be too so that he could get bigger for one of use to shoot later.

Alan got an o.k. olive.  That was all we left with.  I lost my new SL4 light somehow.  Didn't realize it till we got back to the beach.  All in all a nice day on the water but I got skunked.  I guess thats just how it goes and what keeps me going back.  I will add that the dive was filled with many thoughts of the big grey guy circling around my head.  On Friday, a local guy reportedly saw a 15' GWS at Mole point.  And that day I lost my spear shaft my friends who were surfing saw a smaller one inside the surf line at Asilomar.  Little sketchy.  I'm hearing of more sightings these days and its a bit disconcerting.  Oh well.  Don't think it will keep me from getting in the water.

Best of luck to you all.  Happy Hunting and be safe.

Hursty

I'm hoping to sneak out around those parts Sunday AM for a quick dawn patrol mission...PM me if you wanna try and hook up!

Gone south the past two times...think it's time for some northern exploration if the swell permits!
