Anyone have a lead on a bayrunner in great shape? Anyone want to express their thoughts on these boats. I am looking for a boat that I can take my father, sons on a decent day out. Thank you :smt006

I had a 16 for about 10 years and my bud had an 18 great boats handle a big swell well, pretty harsh ride in chop like most alum boats.
Because of the light bow power trim is a must, very dry ride. They have have some corrosion problems so inspect for pitting and rivet damage on the transom the rest of the boat is welded so didn't seem to be an issue after you get it make sure the anodes are set up right. Fast and very stingy on fuel and cheap to maintain. Fun boat to drive passangers can take a beating
Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

Very fuel efficient, al boats are lighter than their glass counterparts which require lower hp rated engines and less fuel burn while pushing them.  This also translates to reduced fuel usage when towing.  You need "less" tow vehicle as well, V8 not mandatory. Tough boats, don't need to baby them.

As reported, they don't ride the best in chop and the biggest drawback I forsee is inherent in the center console design.....they're not necessarily known for being a "family" friendly boat.  Very little protection from the elements.  I wouldn't have a problem beating myself or my friends up but comfort goes along way with my pops and the kids (daughter and nephew).  Getting hammered by the sun/wind/or spray all day just sucks.

Bayrunners are pretty tough to come by in our neck of the woods Dave.  When I was on my boat-hunt last year I had spotted a nice one up in Medford, but then the Whaler came into my sights and I never looked back.  As mentioned above, they are a rough/wet ride, definitely a fishing machine over a family boat.

Definately hard to come back for a reasonable price in norcal. I've been looking for a while. Best part to me if the trailer weight. With my shoulder almost gone I have been seriously shopping for an 19' Arima or C-dory. Both are still pretty light on the wheels but offer serious fishing power.

Dave I just saw a few on CL just a few days ago. not sure if it was Sac, Humboldt, or SF, but it was one of the three. I want to say I saw three or four of them. I myself would like to get another one. sold mine for a bigger boat, the sold that for a wakeboard boat, then had to sell it.
Good Luck,
Jeff

Thanks for all the input! I always wanted a Whaler, got a SeaRay for the family instead. We have used that boat 2x in three years. Used it much more when the kids were younger. Now I want my whaler or the bayrunner. Saw a Mako a few weeks back on eBay in Sac that looked interesting. :smt001
