Would like to do a quickie road trip leaving Labor Day Monday return Weds to hit up prolly freshwater.  No salt b/c on Friday Sept. 9, we're going to Maui.  Of course, if there's a hot late salmon/albie bite, may blow off the road trip and chase jumpers.

This may be my only shot at a continuous midweek stretch for awhile so I don't mind doing something out of the ordinary.

Candidates:

1.  Staycation, boat in camp at Angel Island (more just to say I did it, but i REALLY don't want to camp - company welcome anyway)
2.  Ahjumawi Lava Springs
3.  Mammoth lakes/ bishop
4.  Kern River/ Lake Izzy
5.  Hwy 88 lakes (but only if they've planted caples since LOL)
6.  Saddlebag Lake near Lee Vining (looks lovely but i REALLY don't feel like camping)  http://www.jk-forum.com/showthread.php?144069-Saddle-Bag-Lake-CA-more-of-a-tale-than-a-trail...

Anyway, whacha recommend?

I would hit saddlebag and stay at the cabins there. I bagged a Sierra slam there on flies and a float tube. Bring your little yak for the portage to the upper lakes. The store at the lake sells the flies and lures that work best there. If you are fishing flies, bring a full sink setup if you have one. If fishing isn't good hike tuolome. It's all good.

Martin,

Saddlebag is one of the greatest high elevation lakes on earth! Bring a yak, they also have a boat to get you and the family accross the lake. Great fishing from shore too. Id say youd be lucky to get a camp spot there anyway. BEAUTIFUL, by far my favorite spot.

Bring some extra oxegen, this is clean, crisp, thin air. Look forward to your report!

If for some reason your in the tahoe area, well be at Prosser, again from sept 1-6. Trolling, campin, yakin, chillin

Saddlebag looks great, but SBL Resort website says "there are no accommodations available."  Sux.  Not ruling it out, just have to figure a place to stay.  That would be fun for a few days to stay at 10K feet elevation, then descend to sea level in HI.

Anyone ever stayed at Virginia Creek Settlement in Bridgeport?

Looks like a good location to an adventure base camp w/o having to go the tent route
