Hey all :smt006 . Well after living through the forums here for the last couple months I couldn't take it anymore and went out and bought a fishing yak. After much research I decided to go with the ole trident 13. I think I'm in love :smt007. I have had her out on the flat calm nimbus lake a couple times. Being new to the sport I'm doing my best to take it slow. It is taking a ton of restraint to keep from hitting the AR with it for salmon but, I will wait till next year. I am looking forward to getting out on the big blue for rock fish and maybe salmon. The next few months I will work on getting her all rigged up and round up appropriate safety gear. I'm looking forward to going through the recommended safety/paddling classes (probably going springtime out of Monterrey). Anyways, thank you to those that keep this site running and I am totally looking forward to the good times ahead.  :smt004

I have a couple quick questions...

Would http://www.nrsweb.com/shop/product.asp?pfid=2220&pdeptid=1162 with a paddling jacket be considered safe for the norcal coast or do I need to find a farmer john suit that has a wetsuit top with it?

If I can get a suit together do you think crabbing in the Bodega harbor this weekend is doable for a rookie? :smt001

Looks like you have done some research you should be fine with that suit and a paddling jacket you might want to get a long sleeve shirt Hydro skin,O'neal or Mysterioso to go underneath and some booties. Looks like NCKA will be out in force so just buddy up with someone. WTTM

Welcome DUDE! Thats how we fished for a long time and its been tested. You are a smart person going slow and doing it right. You have a great boat that will provide you many hours of water time in fresh and salt. Keep an eye out for hook ups with seasoned peeps.  Again welcome to the sport that cures all doldrums. Craig

Add a thermal layer such as a polar fleece under the splash jacket, and you should be fine even if you take a wave to your chest or go for a swim.

+1
That is what I wore when I started kayak fishing before moving to a semi-dry outfit. If you plan to do some serious ocean fishing in the north, you may want to consider investing in a drysuit.

Before I go any further WTTM brother!! I'm glad to see that you are doing some research before braving the big blue :) As Craig said , you've got an awesome boat in the Trident (got one myself and LOVE it!!) and keep an eye on the hookups. Looking forward to meeting and fishing with ya someday :D

Farmer John just arived in the mail today and fits like a glove. Just need to hunt down a thermal layer. I hope to someday get into a dry suit. I would probly be sleeping with the dog for a long time if I brought home an 800$ dry suit any time soon.  :smt002

Thanks for the welcomes all. Looking forward to meeting and fishing with you!!!
