Stayed the night in Monterey with the family to keep my wife points in good standing.  Was planning on butt diving Friday, but was too windy for my liking.  Spent  the evening in cannery row, hanging out in the aquarium and eating ice cream at ghirardelli's.

Woke up sat morning to go pickup ccup at a nearby hotel, he also had his wife and cousin to keep his points up to par.  We then went to breakwater in front of Glenn's to meetup with the Tritons and Rick.  Rick was entering the comp, so ccup and I went to tagalong for support.

We took our break and left to the butterfly house.  It was foggy in the morning with some mist drops, the ocean view was pretty calm with a occasional roller.  The vis was from 15-20+ in certain parts.

On my second fish, as I was pulling out my knife, I dropped it.  As it fell I didn't even take a breath, I just shut my mouth and went down and realized that 1/2 down, I had no air.  LOL  My donation for the day.  I will let Rick and CCup chime in their reports.

dpshim, you ever planning to jump back in the water with us?  You and I started at the same time, back at SWS with bloodbath.  I haven't seen you in the water since.

Thanks for the video and diving with Chris and I, Chaeki. Glad you could make it out.

I was going to do a write up, but I've got a few AP Euro History assignments due tomorrow, and I waited till today to do them, so I've been busy all day. Not done yet, so no time for a write up.

Basically, I shot 11 assorted fish, for a total of 7 different species (blues, kelpies, stripe perch, black perch, pile perch, black and yellow rockfish, black rockfish) for the Triton year-long tournament, "King of the Tritons"

This was the 3rd event, but the first one since I've been a member (yesterday).

A lot of cool fish were brought into the weigh-ins, including sheephead, opaleye, a 30 inch ling, big olives, and other fish. The exotic ones were shot off Pacific Grove.

At the meeting, they calculated the standings and announced them. I was very pleased to find out that I had jumped 21 people and landed in 5th place overall for the year, with 2 events left. I'm in a good position to make a move at the next event, as the 2nd place guy won't be attending, and because I don't have a cab/ling/sheephead/opaleye entered yet, the larger species that can be entered, while all the top 4 guys do have them. Hopefully I hit another streak of large and/or unusual species again.

Good vid, Cheaki. I had a blast out there. Now let's mix in some abs seeing that it's almost August...

Nice video Chaeki - I liked the sidways gangsta style shooting at 9:30 in your vid. :)

Rick - Rooting for you and would like to see you take the Triton win!

ccup - A couple friends and I were thinking about heading up to the Mendo coast this weekend to dive abs. Not sure if it will actually happen, but if you are free lets go pull abs!

Forgot to chime in with my portion of the report...

Ended up taking home eight fish for a total of three different species to enter into the competition.  Greenling (a first for me), blue, and kelp.  Five of the fish were blues.  Sadly I lost a nice pile perch.  I strung the perch on my shooting line as the fifth fish on the line, took aim and missed a blue, and the perch flew off the shooting line and spear...(must have tore through the lip). Watched it drift away and couldn't recover it at the end of my breath hold...  I hate losing fish...hits me in the gut. Lesson learned: get a fish stringer and string them through the eyes. I mostly targeted midwater species as I badly need to upgrade my dive light. No hole hunting for me. I've had nothing but excellent experiences with Mako gear and customer service, but the dive light is lacking. I'm eyeing the new UK SL4 L1 eLED.  400 lumens avg'ing around 200 lumens for most of it's wet time. On one of my dives, I peeked my head under a dark ledge, couldn't see crap, but scared out a monster greenling (well, 20"+ at least, which is big for a kelp greenling).  Couldn't get good shot alignment so watched as it swam away. An excellent day ITW!

Nelson, I've just about talked the wife into a "weekend getaway" up north :)  I'll be in touch for sure.  Jonesing for some abs...
