ginotk, to get to the Timber Cove launch head up the 101 to the River Road exit, go west out River Road until it meets hwy 1, go right through Jenner and keep going about 7 or so miles. you will pass Reef Campground first then you'll pass Fort Ross. After another couple of miles you pass the Fort Ross store or your right, a mile after that you will see a trailer park on your left, that's the launch, sorry no address. turn into the trailer park and you'll see a driveway that goes down to the shore/launch. the Lady that collects the money sleeps in so we pay on our way out, she's ok with that. It's $6 per person for the day. newbies wellcome, see you there.

An NCKA trademark is welcoming newbs and showing them the ropes, I generally consider myself a permanent newb, On the other hand I can't recommend the ocean off Timber Cove as a wise choice for your first kayak fishing experience, unless of course you're a fairly experienced yaker with ocean experience already, then well OK.

I hope you've read our safety section,

Be safe and have fun ,

hello Dale! i just want to say that i did take the self rescue and surf lauching kayak class at MBK a few months back. i am a little nervous and excited at the same time but i am a fast learner. Dale or fellow NCKA, is timber cove too much for newb? any feedback will be greatly appreciated. my kayak is loaded up and ready to go, but if its gonna be rough then i might have find plan b. thanks

Good on you for taking those lessons,

Saturday looks uncomfortable with seas of 5 ft and wind 11to 14kts, Sunday seas drop to 4 ft, with wind around  7kt most of the day, now that's a pretty nice forecast.

Timber Cove is a pretty nice launch with some good fish and abs nearby, there are other places that are better for a beginner but TC is not a bad place.

For someone at your level this is how I feel,

If you're not going with an experienced buddy or group, then don't go out in the ocean,
If you don't have a wetsuit don't go. 3mil farmer john as a minimum.
If you don't have a PFD don't go,

I'd say don't go this saturday, but Sunday should be ok,

So to summarize, pick Sunday, wear a wetsuit and pfd at a minimum, and go with at least one, prefferably more experienced people.  If you can't meet all that, then best to hang back until you can.

Not to be over dramatic but our ocean can kill you pretty quick if you're not wearing a wetsuit and for some reason get separated from your yak which on a windy day isn't hard to do. While death might be a longshot, being inexperienced or un prepared can make for a real bad day.

There will be plenty of opportunities to hookup on good days with good people

Yes the Big Blue can be Unforgiving when u least expect it and the buddy system is a must when your new to the salt and even when your not it's sooooo much more fun fishing with your bros... and would suggest VHF if u don't allready have it...along with numerous other safety gear...pool noodles stuffed in your yak...mine has 16...and will not sink filled all the way full with water (tested)  :smt002 .......... :smt044 :smt044 :smt044  be safe........................
It's all about Today!!! Because who knows what tomorrow will bring... so Better get OTW n GetSome
