So just curious, what is the official tally for the following at Bean Hollow:

- kayaks bitten (other than Adam's)

- shark sightings, positive ID for a GWS at Bean

Does someone know?

In addition:

cafecraig sighted what he reported was a GWS in the fall of 2006, if memory serves. Not a positive ID, but description of the coloration would indicate either a very large Salmon shark or a GWS.

A kayak munching incident in July of 2007, if memory serves. Dan in a Hobie Adventure.

Given the proximity to ano nuevo it makes complete sense sharks would more likely be seen and encountered there at Bean, same goes for Pigeon Pt as well.

The reason sharks congregate in certain areas is because of what the area has to offer, same reason people go fishing in certain spots i guess.

Bean on a kayak because that place has a good offering of fish and its a good safe launch, but as for myself I dont think I would dive there as others do. I feel much safer on a kayak than i would in the water there.

If you think about it, a kayak fisherman pulling up a decent sized fish struggling underwater throwing off vibrations which attract anything around is like pretty much luring some certain species to your boat. I have seen it happen underwater while diving, fish struggling on someone's line and instantly anything within range comes over to check it out be it another fish or seal etc...

How about a shark shield on the kayak, anone use one of them for kayak purposes?

I have never fished the SMC and  never will, unless I have a shark shield and several  yakers with me.

However I enjoy the input and thought given to the posts. Anyone considering fishing the bean has enough info through this string to make an educated decision as to whether or not to go out.

I would only add that if you decide to go, think also of your wife, family and loved ones.  How would your death or injury affect their lives?

If you have your mortgage paid off,  funeral paid for, enough term life or disability insurance so your family
would not suffer economically if you died or were injured, go for it.

If you don't,  you are being selfish and shortsighted.

Drive an hour south to Santa Cruz, Moss Landing or Monterey, and it seems to be less risky.
