I highly recommend to stay away from the screw in hatches. Once sand/dirt gets in there it will be almost be impossible to open. I favor the cam lock hatch kit -

Thanks for all the info. I have a Malibu 2xl but havent been out much due to babes and ankle tendon tear.  Its good to see there are a lot more Malibus out there.  I have only taken my yak out into Berry,Napa River, & San Pablo Resvr. How does it handle in the Bay and Ocean? Looks very intimidating.
