Pretty sweet little cameras. My buddy has one and its video is pretty comparable to a GoPro. There's also a lot of side x side comparisons on youtube.

Thinking about getting one at this price. The GoPro is a little too bulky to be used as an actual helmet cam...and I might even send a Contour down with a swimbait below it.

Are you sure about this?  The Contour is water "resistance" only not "waterproof"!

Yeah water resistant
. They make waterproof housings for it, but by the time you buy that, you could have gotten a Go Pro

You can get a waterproof housing for it.

Iirc....the reviews for the housing and customer service were not too good on spearboard.  Id research into it if I were gonna drop the dough.

If I were to just get one, I'd get the GoPro.

But I already have a GoPro....and at this price, I kinda want a Contour, also!

In the end they're all just toys and they do pretty similar things in almost the same way at almost the same quality.

It looks like the retail price of the ContourHD is $249 vs. $299 for the GoPro.

Some differences that I think lean in favor of the GoPro are that:

1) It's a local company, I think they're in HMB.
2) It comes with a seperate housing, even if I scrub coming down a hill on the MTB and rip the camera off of the mount it's likely that only the mount or the housing will be damaged...I can replace either of them for a few bucks.  The Contour doesn't seem to include a housing at all (bought seperately) so if something happens it might be that you have to replace the camera unless it was the mount that broke.
3) The Contour seems to not be able to take photos, it's not their main purpose but I'm really digging the time lapse shots.
4) They might be using other cameras too but it seemed like shows like Deadliest Catch use the GoPro's quite a bit.  Surviving a show like that has gotta say something about their quality.
5) There seems to be quite a few add-ons and mounts available for GoPro.

The thought of the "Live Action" feature and the 2.8 Aperature on the Contour+ seems pretty cool but the price for that one is $499.

You're right though the GoPro is a bit too bulky especially when you start thinking of adding some of the add-ons like the viewer and the battery pak.
