Awe my blaar! Ja nee ek is somma in my noppies dat van die boote hiernatoe kom! Ek skiem die souties gaan dit smaak.

My first watercraft was a Macski "Juice" that I won in a comp at Checkers in Plumstead, decades ago.
Hey guys, just so you know, Macski is not a new company. They have been building watercraft for around 30 years and have a great reputation in SA.

Alistar, Jy moet die donderse groot geelbekke(Eintlik is hulle Wit See Bas) sien wat ons die afgeloope paar maande hier kry. Ek gaan vir mooch vra om jou toe te laat om die privaat saait te view.

Stywe lyne.............

Thanks for checking in Alistair! I've always wanted to paddle a Macski because they're built for rough surf launches (from what I've seen/heard) and we do a lot of that here in Norcal. Do you know if there are any local retailers where we can check em out in person?

The Kingfisher was designed for rough surf launches!! And this is where it truly excels.
They aren't in your local retailers, but I could ship you a demo craft for the members of the Norcal community to try out. If there is someone on the forum that would be willing to coordinate it. If anybody enjoys the demo craft and wants to get one, we could ship them one direct from the factory. Would certainly work out cheaper than buying through the local retailer.

You guys rock. I wanted one of the old Macskis after seeing one in La Jolla years ago. Now I really want one for LK launches.
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........

We have scheduled the production of the demo craft, and requested shipping quotes. We'll have a Macski Kingfisher on it's way to you as soon as possible.

Hi All
Alistair from the Macski factory in South Africa here. Just a quick hello to everyone on the forum. If any Macski owners out there need assistance or advice with their craft, please let me know. Or anyone who has a fibreglass craft or query - we'd be happy to contribute where we are able to.

Excellent news on reducing the weight. Couple of questions though:

1) Got any video of your kingfishers going through meter+ surf, where the bow is piercing through the curl of the wave? I've paddled sit insides with various bow shapes through good sized surf, and they all depended on being able to cut through the curl. My guess is that the blunt, high buoyancy bow of the Kingfisher is meant to float vs cut. I'd just like to see it in action.

2) The Kingfisher I looked at about 4 years back seemed to have the "fish well" running the entire length of the hull. Thus making a shoot through transducer installation problematic. Yet there's a picture on your site of one of these boats sporting a fishfinder. Any idea how that install was done? Is the fish well now confined to just the forward portion of the hull?

3) What if I wanted to say "fuggetit" to the fish well, and just wanted a boat consisting of top and bottom shells, with the center hatch accessing the entirety of the internal space. Doable?

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Hi Scott

1. We don't have a video clip of the Kingfisher going out thru the surf, but we'll make one and post it. Yes, the nose of the ski is designed to go over the wave as opposed to through it. When a kayak cuts through a wave, any part of the wave washing over the deck will tend to try take anything on the deck with it, especially the pilot.

2. The fish well runs from under the seat to the nose of the ski. So from behind the seat to the back of the ski, you have access to the bottom deck and could easily fit a shoot through transducer. The transducer of the ski in the photo you saw is fitted to the bottom of the ski, right at the back behind the rudder and fin (for protection while beaching).

3. Yes, we can make a ski with no internal wells - just top and bottom deck. That would save even more on the weight - bring it down to around 44lbs.

Too bad I'm nowhere nearby, but 55lbs (same as my P15) and the center hatch look like great assets to me. I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's reviews!

Jay, maybe one will show up in your neck of the woods.

I chatted up Mr Macski and here's the plan (still to be confirmed).  He'll ship 2 kayaks out for demo purposes.  Through 2011 we'll loosely hand these off between members and try to make sure they appear at events and gatherings.  One is intended to make its way up to the NW for NWKA members.  That'll be a quite the trip and sequence of handoffs!!  The other will circle around NorCal.  At the end of 2011, they'll become prizes for the 2011 AOTY.

Headed up to WA Aug-sept and do the Puyallup fair sept which is close to a lot of those members I'm sure...pretty sure you won't put it together before end of this month but if u do let me know........would be happy to haul it up there and demo it on Drano Lake than hand it off to a fellow Brother.... B-run Steel head!!! :smt044 :smt044 :smt044  who knows might even buy one....HA!!!  anything paddles better than my pelican... :smt001  but from everything I hear I'm leaning towards a Revo.... :smt044

Probably looked at shipping price and got cold feet. The Rand has stengthend against the dollar, so exporting to the US isn't as attractive with the big shipping fees. I'd love to blast some surf on that boat.
