Need fishing tips for DV

I plan on hitting Del Valle Tuesday with my son.  I've never fished there, and as you are already aware, I am a no-good freshwater angler.  I can use any advice you can dish out.  Frankfishing gave me some good advice last year, but I forgot them.   

I'm targeting whatever will give my son the best chance of hooking onto some fish !!  Same story.
