so fishing in the ocean. how many poles are allowed to be used. i thought  it was one but ive read in reports that some are using two.

Depends on the species....in ocean waters halibut and WSB would be however many you can handle.  Salmon, rockfish/lingcod specify one rod. 

If you read a report with multiple rods out the target species was likey halibut.

I usually don't use poles.  I do however go out with 2 to 4 rods depending on the target species  :smt002

Technically if you had two rods out when you landed it then it should go back....whatever you decide to do is up to you  :smt004
