i went with my family to carmel and was denied beach access at pebble beach after paying for the entrace fee. i was not able to get a refund and the crabby old lady at the gate said "if the security guard promised you a refund he better be the one paying you"... so thats how the day started  :smt005

parked at carmel beach at the south end and took off on my kayak to try the gopro with the ebay oculus lens. i never used a camera on the gun before so it was a day to experiment. i'll have video up later this week. i edited just showing a few shots and wanted to test the angle of view etc...

i shot a few rockfish and one ling cod. the water was a bit murky due to surge and dark due to overcast conditions as well. i was anchored in about 40 feet depth and it still beat a day of work anytime.

unfortunately i ran out of memory on the card i have (8 gb) by the time i came upon the ling. i was cleaning the fish i have on the surface and when i made a drop down i saw a fish staring back at me. i was not sure if it was a big RF or a ling but upon closer inspection it was a ling which i took home. It was 27" so not giant but it was good for dinner.

i looked for sheephead there as well since i had speared some before but on this day i saw none.

i'll post the chopped up mini video on vimeo this week and post back here for you to see. the oculus lens seemed to work well at 2 pcs for 35.00 from Thailand.

i need a new wetsuit top though, the one i have is torn and just old :smt011 :smt011

i look forward to making more fishy videos.

good luck out there!

John

PS: on the beach there was a dead seal missing a head so if you see a seal head somewhere out there please return it to the rightful owner up on the beach!  :smt005

Wow, that sucks.  Seems the gate should be able to tell you the beach access is closed before you pay.  The yak on the roof is a pretty good indicator of who may be launching.

glad you salvaged the day and scored some dinner.

Too bad about the gate fee.... Carmel gate is the worst! You can ask before you pay if you are going to Stillwater. The guards at the hill gate are pretty cool about informing kayakers...if you ask. Headless seal? NOT a good sign  :smt009
