I recently gained access to a small private pond about the size of a football field with rounded corners. It's got healthy shoreline cover and shady areas. It seems to be full of largemouths, many of which are only about 8" long. The biggest one I've caught was about 12". I see them swimming around, but no other types of fish. I wish there were bluegills in there. My question is, would it be hurting anything to introduce bluegills to the pond/ecosystem? Would they be any worse than the bass already in there? The way I see it, the bass would have a great food source, allowing them to grow bigger, and the bluegills could also grow to their potential. The 'gills could also do their part in keeping the mosquito population in check. Yes?
Living in Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay, I snuck into, and was granted access to, little ponds that held bass and bluegills, and they were the greatest little bodies of water! Decent bass and giant bluegills.
Of course I wouldn't do any stocking w/o asking for permission from the owners.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

i know that the winery irrigation ponds i get to fish, the ones that have the panfish have a better quality bass in them, and the ones without another species are more on the stunted size, checks and balances i guess, pan fish eating bass fry and bass eating panfish fry and adults, leaving good genetics and balanced food chain, so ive heard, just glad i get to fish the long rod to some nice fish in solitude :smt003

It would provide a good source of nution for the bass beside the other small bass in the pond.
