It was nice to get salty, and even better to meet new folks and explore an area i have not dived before. Dived in a spot b/t the fort and Timber Cove (a vista overlook area).

Got down to the rocks we chose to dive the more surgy area to the right instead of the calmer waters, wanting to explore and thinking it may hold bigger abs. Saw plenty abs but didn't spend enough time looking for the larger ones, so ended up with abs 8-8.75" saw some uni, so picked one and then went back to looking for abs, then couldn't find that spot again b/c surgy. Once i got my second wind, i got really comfortable but had my limits by then. I think it was a mistake to start diving in 30 feet and work my way slowly back in. Should have done it the other way around.

Saw a linghead in a crevice but could tell by the size of its head that it was gonna be short by a few inches, so didn't bother getting my spear.  Saw lot's of black RF swimming about, but nothing big. It was surgy and i was getting lazy, so didn't shoot fish- what a waste of gonad and squid i brought for the baitbag!

@ last week's PIF fundraiser, I won a Banks board ( game clip & camo straps w/ waist support included) @ the raffle and took the maiden voyage. Stowing gear and accessing it otw was much easier. It didn't flip over in swells like my lighter boogieboard did. The hatch was a nice feature, although my drybox on the boogie board was never an issue.  It also felt very stable. On the other hand, it was heavy, and even heavier on the hike back up, and my abs weren't even that big. The biggest issue was that in rocky launch sites with frequent swell sets coming in, i had one hell of a time launching- never had such issues before. The weighty bulkiness has its advantages and disadvantages. The bulky and weighty Banks board was throwing me around when a set came in strong during launch b/t rocks. Next time, i think i'll use it only in calmer launch conditions (e.g. Stillwater) and use my boogie board for rocky launches w/ bigger waves. Did i mention that it was heavy? Maybe i need to hit the gym.

Thx PIF for nice board.

Peace, y'all

Congrat on the BB and the Ab limit.  What's your guess on the BB's weight?  Would love to try it out before buy one for myself.  Thanks for the report John.

Great report about the board John.  Just got myself a boogie board from Joel and I thought I should have got a banks board instead after seeing yours at the PIF.  I know I'm older and have less muscles than you so I'll probably complain about the weight too.   Glad you got some abs even though you had some extra weight to carry.

Those look nice but would hate to do long steep hikes with one, great you got a dive in at the end.
