Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I want to go out on the wednesday after the opener, but I may have to work as I have been asked to work on my last two wednesdays because my store is moveing.  If I dont have to work and the wether looks good I would like company out of moss.

Hmm.  1 in 20 chance at a salmon or 3 out of 3 chance for abalone.  Hard call.
Those abs are gonna be there all year. Salmon season may be 2 weeks only!

Best of luck to all that make it out April is a no fish month for me,  because of work and no days off. I was looking forward to trying for some Salmon this year too, hope the petitions work.
I'll be waiting for the reports..

Ditto.  I end up pacing myself to make the 24 last all season...although with Jelly now getting limits 48 abs is PEEELENTY of allocation for the White family.

Just remember that the conditions on the opener may suck for either activity.  If the conditions suck, stay home and stay alive.  Every year some idiot dies snail diving on a day all of the smart people stayed dry.

To the abalone guy, what are you going to do after you spend an hour getting abalone. I'm going salmon fishing after I get my abs! I won't be going out April 1st, though, I going to give it a day and check the fishing reports then go Sunday.

I am also interested in the boat ramp reports. It's going to be a minus tide at 7am so I bet a lot of ramps will be clogged with trailers stuck over the edge of the ramp and  can't get out. Opening day and a challenging situation, is an invitation for many examples of stupidity. I bet from about 5:30 to 8:30 there will be lots of good entertainment at various boat ramps. So, get yourself a warm jacket, a thermos of coffee, some camp sugar and a designated driver and enjoy the show!

I might, I know there's salmon about fort ross.  I'd need a paddle partner though since I never violate the buddy system on the kayak.  There's a norcal freediver event at the fort saturday, so I won't be short of dive buddies.  If the vis is alright I might just focus on getting a limit of lings with the speargun.

Early season salmon are usually scattered offshore feeding on krill.  To target them effectively you have to get out far enough and cover alot of water because the fish are harder to locate.  IME they bite best in the gray of morning, so I'd do my diving after salmon fishing, not before.  Yeah the low tide is in the morning, but high tide has never stopped me.

Just a heads up too that tray bait usually runs short for the opener. Chovies are the best from past experience.
