I am new to the Santa Cruz area and have been looking for good beach launch access.  I have noticed these signs all over town and cannot for the life of me make any sense of them.  Please tell me what this means?
P.S. any suggestions on good launch sites would be appreciated.  I plan on trying from the Twin Lakes Beach.

Yeah, sucks doesn't it  :smt013  Fri-Sun, and any money making holidays, from about 11am-5 you have to find this "booth" to pay for a parking permit, or they will come around and write you a parking ticket.  I assume you are looking at the sign that is closest to the Harbor?  If you drive around the corner to the stop sign and make a right following the beach, you will see a Y fork in the road, and a white trailer where you can buy your permit, during those hours.  If you get there before 11am, you better return or leave by 11am to purchase your ticket, or you will most likely just get a ticket  :smt044

Instead try what some others have been suggesting and launch from the north harbor northern hand launch ramp, where you can unload for free, and repark on the street above the harbor lot for free, by a restaraunt?  That or head to Capitola, where you can unload on the wharf, or next to the wharf, and re-park up above where there is free parking by the rail road tracks.  Either that or look for a dammaged parking meter, Sara says there are a few  :smt005  Get a State Poppy Pass and launch from New Brighton for free all you want.  Thats about all I do for the SC area, but there is also davenport, pigeon point, etc.

what Al said.
Plus, be aware that other than the harbor and a few other select spots like cowells or mitchells, there is no legal kayak launch on most of the city beaches (such as twin lakes). You may be cited by lifeguards.

Best bet is to launch from the harbor to get your bearings. Fish Blacks beach to the south or the rocks and sand off of the lighthouse.
If you are outside the city limits then yak launches are only limited by your skill and motivation.

For a real beach launch Davenport is about as easy as it gets in terms of parking.

Thanks for the feed back. I was thinking that Scotts Valley Beach looks like a good launch.  This looks like it is outside of the Greyhound Rock SMCA.  Is this a legal place to launch and fish?
