Just got back from 3 nights @ Russian Gulch SP, am planning my next family camping trip and want to know your favorite lakeside camping spot.
I went to Collins lake last year and want to go where the kids can fish, yak and swim.

Criteria:
kids can fish, yak and swim
no more than 3 hour drive from bay area (San Ramon to be exact)

thx for your recommendations!

Lower Blue Lake (Tahoe area)!!!!!  It is one of the few High Sierra lakes in our area with lake front camping, 5 mph speed limit on the lake and lots of trout!  Last time I checked it was first come first serve for campsites.

Directions: From Meyers, at Junction of Highways 50-89, take Highway 89 South and go 11 miles to junction with Highway 88. Turn West and go 2.5 miles on Highway 88 to Blue Lakes Road. Turn South and go 12 miles to Lower Blue Lake. Road turns North, 2 miles more to Upper Blue Lake.

thanks.  We've been to LT alot, but never tent camping.  Will be putting it on my to-do list.  Thx for your recommendation, and the detailed navigation!

The wife and I just got home from Lake Francis in Dobbins, Ca. Not far from Collins Lake.

We camped there in our pop-up for 3 nights and had a nice time. Looked to be very family friendly. Swim area for the kids, very small lake, no power boats. I spent a couple hours on the water and caught 6 or 8 LMB. Most were small, one was around 15". The camping is not "lakeside". You have to walk down some trails to get to the water from the campsites. They allow tents and RVs.
