I'll be trying for crappies again this evening up the Capell Creek arm (working the flooded trees). I think I'll start out sailing this afternoon on the bays and then shift to the trees by late afternoon. I will venture farther up the arm to check the shallows before setting up tied to the trees for the evening bite.

My crappie counts have not been impressive. Caught just 2 my last trip. Did catch a couple of smallmouth and a nice (hard fighting) channel cat though. Mixed bag... Crappie jig tipped w/wax worm seemed to work better than the minnow last trip.

If you see a yellow Adventure Island, give me a yell. If you go, bring a light and some bug spray.

Carl, I just saw your hookup so it's too late for me to go now. Good luck. jim

Hey Jim

Sorry for the late notice. Ended up arriving a little later in the afternoon than I wanted. The sailing was outstanding on the main lake. Unfortunately, the wind died fast at sunset and I had to pedal quite a distance across the bay and up into the creek arm. Set up by where you were fishing in the trees. Evidently, I missed most of the bite because as soon as I tied off (while hooking up my light) my bobber sank about 3 feet and I missed the first crappie. Threw out another jig/minnow and immediately caught a decent crappie close to a pound followed in a few minutes by a largemouth of around 2 pounds. That was it.  5 minute wide open followed by nothing after dark.

The crappie I did catch was healthy except its back fin was worn like he had been fanning a nest. Lots of tiny fish fry in my underwater light after dark. Little baby crappies?

Hope to see you on the water soon  :smt006

Sounds like the crappie bite could have passed us. Hope to get out soon. See you out there.

Thanks for the report Carl. It got hot and now I'm stuck, but happy to be, with a bunch of work so hopefully there will be a few crappies left later this month when I can get back to Berry! jim

Doc, Saltydog,

I think the crappie fishing may actually improve for awhile. They might be close to being done with spawning but that water back there is still cool, deep and with lots of cover and feed. Just wish I could have gotten back there a little sooner in the afternoon/evening bite.

Hope to see you guys OTW.
