Thanks for the update Tote. I usually take 88 to Markleeville to fish the East Carson but it's a bit slower. Now it will be about the same for a while.

There is lots of snow and ice up there still.

A friend of mine was there recently and fished Caples lake at the woods creek inlet. (No ice)

Browns, Brookies & Rainbows, all casting from one spot.
I've got wood for fishing.

Trout are always good and hungry at ice-out.
Sounds like I need to make a trip up there and shore fish.

I think stream fishing starts this weekend, and I am looking forward to hitting the Carson or Stanislaus on weekends where the big blue doesn't cooperate.  Cant wait to catch some stream trout and smoke them up!  :smt003

16, do you have a number to call for fishing and lake conditions along Hwy 88?  caples, silver, etc - interested in getting back up there asap.

Nothing but word of mouth from a friend. Try calling the Kirkwood Inn & Saloon @ (209) 258-7304. They post a fishing report on their wall. They can also just about look across the street at Caples.

Be sure to stop back by for some good food and a cold beer afterwards.

did he have to use snow shoes to get there?  I think we would be lucky to be fishing Caples by June or July this year.  probably 20' of snow in that area right now.
