The NOAA pridictions are showing a flat and calm winds weekend. Anyone thinking of chasing after some salmon this weekend? I'm thinking about it, but not sure where to try from. Monterey, Linda Mar, Marin, or Sonoma coast...........Hmmmmm. Any suggestions or intel is welcome. Trying to put a plan together.

Ugh... I'm not ready yet!  Still trying to catch the ones in lakes  :smt044  Whats your plan anyway?  Still keeping my options open for this weekend I guess, but would rather stay local which = saltwater.

I'm thinking of fishing Monterey Bay this weekend. I called a charter boat company today and they said the fish were near shore in the bay and holding in 40 to 50 feet of water. The catch has been hit and miss, his boat only landed 6 keepers today, with about a dozen shakers thrown back. Yesterday was quite a bit better.  I think the fish are too deep at Moss to fish for easily in a yak.   Gabe

Well the MBAY conditions look pretty good, so i'm trying to convince myself to give it a shot.  But, i've got no idea yet what i'm doing, and hope to figure it out at work today and drop by 'da warehouse' to pickup what I need.  Hoping the bait is still thick and I can gather some up to fish with.

From all the reports I've gotten. They're still way too far for a kayak. Guess we'll have to wait........

Eh, i'm gonna give it a shot anyway!   :smt004  Be at MBK at sunrise and at least get my first day of practice in for trolling for salmon in the ocean.  Maybe i'll get a lucky shaker at least  :smt003  Or i'm gonna give up and go for halibut  :smt044  Either way, conditions are too nice to pass up!

I believe if your fishing for Salmon you cannot have barbed hooks in possession. Not 100% sure but might be good to check the regs on this. Fish & Game out in full force. Hope someone will chime in if they know about this.

As far as I've read, nothing has said that I can't possess them, just not use them while fishing for or with salmon on board.  But please, do correct me if I'm wrong  :smt002

Going Fishing?
Winds from the south, hook in
    the mouth.
Wind from the east, bite the least.
Wind from the north, further off.
Wind from the west, bite the

I believe that was true a long time a go. But these days you could have barbed hooks in possession while fishing for salmon. You just cant use them on salmon.

And I don't think you can use barbed hooks once you've landed one - let's say you wanted to target RF afterward.

Once you have a salmon on board  you could continue fishing for rockfish but with barbles circle hooks. What i would do is fish for rockfish then fish for salmon. Same when halibut is in play i would fish for halibut first with two rods then fish for rockfish with one rod. That's how i interpit the regs. If anyone els have any info please chime in on this subject. I also know you could use a gaff on a legal size salmon and that you have to have a landing net no smaller than 18inch in diameter when fishing out in the Monterey Bay.
