hey folks, i fished around the bouy leaving from san carlos beach in monterey and caught sanddabs. they were like 3 inches long. do they get larger than this? also, how do you cook em? i thought they were miniature halibut at first. i was like "that thing aint 22 inches"!!

any tips appreciated!

alright then, i'll keep my rodent hobby out of this fishing forum. my new picture is up and its a 39" i got for halloween last year.

fish"n" dive was there for the fun....

i cant eat guinea pigs..... why when i can have fish?: O )

Yes, John

They do get bigger.  But that type, the rather plain brown and gray ones, don't get too very big.  If you hunt sand dabs up along the buoy line going north, you will get the kind with little orange dots.  They are a bit larger usually.  At least, that is what I have found.

To prepare them, we take the filet knife just behind the head, sever it at the spine and then pull the head and guts away.  Scrape the scales off and toss them whole into a relatively hot pan.  Cook for 3-7 minutes and lift the filet pieces out......leaving behid the fins and spine and other bones.
