I'm thinking of buying a spear gun.  It looks like from the videos that most folks prefer the band guns over the pneumatic.  Besides the cost is there any reason that the band guns might be/are better??

I like the ability to change bands for more power or less if desired.  The gas charge breaks down after awhile.  Though I have never owned one, it is the experience I hear from my brother and other friends who own a gas model.

I ran pneumatics from the start. About 30yrs now. You do need to have them serviced, replacing O rings and the such. They should come with a pump so you can keep the charge up from any light loss. Only problem I've had is finding parts as the company's like to modify and obsolete some. I also now am shooting a band gun as well, looking at easier maintenance for it. It also depends on what type of shooting area your going to get in. I can load a phnumo  allot faster then a band. It comes down to personall preferences and style. See if you can try out some friends before you make the choice.

This topic comes up on and off. Use the search function to find prior post. For our neck of the woods the "can't go wrong" gun would be a 75cm euro. Preference tends to be towards rail guns, Rob Allen, Mako.
If you like pneumatics get a 70cm with power selector. You will appreciate the versatility of changing from lo to high and viceversa at the flip of a button.
You can never have enough guns....ask our moderator :smt003
