Just got my first kayak(Prowler) and I am looking for a PFD.  Just about all my trips will be ocean fishing.  Any suggestions on what to look for in a PFD?  What brands/model do you prefer?  Thanks for the info.

Look for a kayak PFD that doesn't inhibit arm movement.  I like one that zips for easy on/off.  And pockets for VHF and GPS.  I also have a whistlle and a knife attached at all times.  And I've been known to attach a stobe light as well.  I'm partial to Lotus Designs PFD's.  My PFD's are red for visibility.  I gear up keeping in mind that I wan't to be prepared in the event that I might get separated from my yak.  I can radio my position and signal (audibly and visually) for help.

I have had 2 ExtraSport PFDs so far, I have liked them both. I currently use and Extrasport Lure, I like it a lot.

I started out with an Extrasport.   I like it, but the thickness of the back makes it uncomfortable with a tall seatback.   I decided to try out the same mesh-backed Lotus Design Mildwater PFD that Joel uses and it's way more comfortable.

Cabelas has one for $50 that I use. Seems comfortable enough w/ 4 pockets to hold your gear. For me, the price and featrues was just right.
