04.10.2011 Sonoma Stillwater Cove Abalone Diving

Woke up at 3:50am, and left the house to pickup Rick, and Heesup.  Got to stillwater cove at 7am to meet up with Garety.  Suited up and hit the water.  My job was to teach Heesup get his first abalone.  Rick went with Garety to team up. 

Vis was a great 6ft, which to me was awesome!!  I was hitting 17-22ft then realized that Heesup couldn't hit that, so we came back into the rock area and was diving 10-12ft.  Heesup was able to get his first limit.  Since I was watching over him, I decide to just get my abalone from the same area, biggest being 8.75". 

As we were packing up and walking back to the car, we had a nice lady DFG with 2 other sidekicks, asking to check our catch.  She was very cool and asked us about the vis.  She said today was the best so far since opener.  As she checked our tags, she notice some of ours were not holed.  She went to the car and then came back to hole punch all our tags.  I forgot to get her name, but she was way cool of a DFG officer.

We hit up bodega bay and had some fish and chips, with a burger and clam chowder.  Then we split for home on the 3hr trip... zzzz

Now that's a man any wife would be proud of!  WTG on bringing home the bacon (abalone).

Hyung.. your trip tomorrow should be good.... because it was so damn nice today!!.. tomorrow should even be better.... !!!! go get that 10!

Good job on limits and mentoring new divers!

Thought about going there, but passed it up to go exploring in the Gualala area.  We were greeted with 0-4 ft viz, but the weather was great and it was pretty calm. If I had known the viz would have been that much better at Stillwater we probably would have gone there to at least have a chance to spear some fish as well.  Oh well, we got our abs, and it was a great day to be out in the water.

Thanks again for letting me carpool, Chaeki! I had a great dive. I ate one of the abs for dinner, as sashimi, and I almost ate the whole thing alone. Sliced really thin so it's crunchy and sweet... MMMMMM

Every time my wife hears it, she gives me a funny look.... She wanted a daughter so bad when she was pregnant, just because she wanted to buy pretty clothes for her, and all I gave her was a pretty son.  HAHAHAHAH

Its funny all different nationalities say pretty much the same thing, lol.
