Was wondering if conditions like this turn on a sturgeon bite or it is just punishment to go out and face these wet conditions? I was thinking about hitting the Montezuma in the morning but thought I would ask the question first. I had heard that when it is shitty out some of the best sturgeon bite happens. For me it is all heresay  :smt044
Thanks

All rain is not created equal.  Steadily cold air temps for over a week with a freeze warning tonight, cold rain, gotta drop the water temps a bit....my guess is the fish would be alot more lethargic than say a warmer rain early in the season.

I say punishment, but staying home guarentees you won't catch anything.

Out of boredom I was gonna post up a similar question but more general in nature, at 58, even being much less fanatic that most of you all, I've done allot of fishing.  So I was thinking mostly to myself about my success rate on days with crappy weather.  This is different than what Art mentions, I'm just talking about going out when the weather makes you think twice.

For my own experience I think crappy weather has meant crappy results, boat , shore, or yak. However there was one day in SPB, when it was raining steadily and hard with little wind and kinda warm, where we had great luck on the sturgies, 3 for 3, soaked to the bone but a happy group.

Or perhaps this just what I tell myself as an excuse to stay home warm and dry.

I dont think so... Not after being skunked for 3+ weeks when it was off and on good/bad weather.  Seemed like when the weather was nice, the fish didn't get the memo either  :smt005  Is "perfect" weather (ie. glassy/clear water/no wind) good for fishing?  Still think no, since it seems easier to spook the fish on those days.  I just usually say that if I have nothing else to do, weather schmeather, I'm going fishing!!!  :smt003

I read that the Sac river came up about 20 feet since last week. My thought is next week would be much better when the water is going back down. I've fished it that high, but usually it's skunksville

I'd bet the water temps just dropped a few degrees with this frickin freezing rain....THAT will put a bite off i'd bet.
with a warm near spring sun though you might see decent fishing in the really shallow water...warms up faster - at least that's my belief

A warmer rain like we had today would I think make a difference for the positive. Fresh and a little warmer than last week. When the temp at surface in the pet river never even got above 49. Too cold.
