Does anyone have a TLD 5? I have been told that they make a great Kayak reel b/c of their corrosion resistance and light weight. Has anyone fished this reel or own one?
Thanks,

The Tld 5 is pretty hard to come by and usually pretty expensive as well. I've also heard that they don't make parts for them anymore either which could be a bummer if you pick up a used one.

The Charter special is basically a Tld 5 with a level wind and is still sold today for around $120. I think Alantani also has a kit to make it a topless frame without the level wind.

Check out the Daiwa sl20 shv they are graphite frame, lightweight and very durable. Also cheap at a little over $100 brand new.

Let us know what you end up getting.

Look on E-bay for a 15/30 or a 20/40 TLD. I have bought them in great shape used for sometimes 30 plus ship. 119.00 retail

Buy it....the 5 has a cult like following and they hoarde em big time.  If you didn't like it you'd be able to sell it pretty quick, seen em go between a bill and one fifty depending on condition.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

Buy it I'll take it if you don't want it, I have one I lent out and the frikker won't give it back. The only thing I don't like it is it is easy to hit the lever when you are fighting a fish causing a super backlash.
