Excellent video , makes me want to forget selling my dive stuff and gun .  At what distance are most of those fish shot ? Looks a lot further than my 1-3 foot range ! Excellent shooting , by the way .

Fairly close, the wide angle lense makes things look slightly farther than they are.

I think most shots were 4-8ft.  The last red was probably 2ft or so... but that one surprised me.
Could definitely get closer to the fish, but anything within that range is an almost guaranteed headshot.   :smt001

Did you guys see the scene where Fuzz was pointing up through some kelp like Babe Ruth was calling out his home run?

He was pointing out an olive that I WAS CLOSER TO, but he saw... so you guys can guess to whom I attribute my so-called success.

80cm Sporasub ONE

A bit overkill for Norcal, but I love how it handles...
When I go back to Hawaii, it's my primary goatfish gun.  I've even shot an uku with it while bluewater diving (was shooting chum & it came in).  :D

For those shots you were taking it looked perfect.   I have a 75cm picasso century out here on maui that i bought specifically for halibut.  I swear by it now, lotta guys using 100cm on goats out here.  I put my reel back on it and now pull it on my float whereever I go for back up shots.  One of my goals too is to shoot an uku with that gun, something under 7 lbs though.   I like sporasub's catalog, gotta alot nice stuff.  shoots :smt004

When you're dropping near ukus or mu, hide under a ledge/overhang if available.  Preferably one without a big puhi (moray eel) in it.  ;)

The uku & mus will come right up to the opening to check you out.  Sometimes the mu will surprise the crap out of you & show up under the ledge!

Happy hunting!

Enjoyed the vid, and like the original view of the catch stacked in the back of your yak. Only a diver would see that view.
