First time on a kayak fishing ... a real rookie for sure.  I trolled minnows and casted lipless crankbaits up and down.  Got nothing.  There were some group kayak races going on... UC Davis.  pushed me over to the sides because they hogged up the middle.  Saw some other folks fishing but seemed like nothing was going on.  Did run into another member from this kayak forum.  Let's see what he reports.

Welcome to the madness. The port is a fun place to fish and it's fairly safe. Not too big and fairly calm most of the time. A good place to learn the ropes. Maybe it's not the hottest time of year, but at least you're fishing. Come out when  a group of us is out there. It's much easier to learn by first hand observation and instruction. We'd be glad to show you the ropes.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

Way to give it a try this morning rookie916. Yeah, keep an eye out on the hookups so you can see how everybody fish that area. Ask away any questions
you may have and I'm sure you'll get plenty of advices. Looking forward to fishing
with you soon.
