A LongLiner™ is a strike-activated release device that allows you to affix your sinker weight virtually anywhere on your fishing line. When a fish strikes, the LongLiner's trip mechanism releases and the LongLiner™ and sinker weight are released and slide down the fishing line to a swivel stop near enough to the fishing lure (or bait) that you can reel in the fish.  More details on link below:

i think you could still run a dodger.  The longliner would just stop at wherever your dodger is attached.  but if we're talking 2 1/2 - 3 lb balls that would probably still affect the fight of the fish anyways, no? probably need a little heavier rod to handle the strain of the 2-3lb weight.

still a good idea for those who don't want to drop lead into the ocean.  i might investigate one if i ever get a chance to get out there.

I just bought two of these from http://www.ultimatemichiganfishing.com/products/item8.cfm.

2 x $12.95    $25.90
Subtotal:    $25.90
Shipping (US Postal Office):    $1.99
Total:    $27.89

Couple bux cheaper than direct from manufacturer, with less expensive shipping options.  Looking forward to giving them a whirl

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
