Today the stars aligned and all of the kids were in school, yet me an Leah both had the day off.  We decided to go to Blue Lakes for a "back-rub" derby...in other words who ever caught the most fish won a 20 minute back-rub from the less fortunate angler.

The weather was GORGEOUS and the Blue Lakes wind was MIA.  We were actually getting hot in shorts and t-shirts! Lots of boats were out, all in pursuit of planters.  We trolled blue/silver little Cleos for about 2.5 hours.  I had 3 hook-ups, but only one made it to the boat.  The crappie noodle I was using wasn't stiff enough to set on the strike.  Oh well, one fish was still good enough for a win!

After Leah squeezed this fish like a tube of toothpaste and tried to pull its lower jaw off, it was released...and despite our best efforts it was still alive!

It was a huge treat to fish with my sweetie  :smt007

Man, you got to go fishin (with just shorts on?), and do all the right things for V-day?  Sean, you're a smart operator.  You should do seminars or something.

Sean,

Every time I go fishing I have to give a back rub to my wife, It doesn't matter how many fish I catch either!  It is my ticket out the door.

I believe so.
I know the restaurants around the lake are BAD......
I used to deliver Coca Cola in that area. More flies than customers.
The most productive spot for me has been between the two lakes..The channell I guess its called.
If the camp sites there suck its only 15 minutes to Mendo.

And the best steakhouse in NorCal is 10 minutes from Mendo..

BROILER STEAKHOUSE!!!!!

There are campsites at Blue Lakes but they are closed for the winter.  There is a cabin/motel thingy at the east end of the lake where we normally launch.  They call the channel the "narrows" there is also a little resort there. The trout fishing there is good for short periods after it gets stocked, and then its pretty lame. Its a great place for kids, or just killing time, but not worth a major drive IMHO.  The Broiler on the other hand is worth a drive, but I can't eat enough to get my moneys worth.  There is nothing petite about their petite cut of prime rib!
