Tomales Bay crabbing and sea vegetable gathering has been fun.  Now I would like to add some successful fishing.

Tips?

Thanks.

Nick's cove is the place to launch...I think it's early for butts but leopards are around.
later in the year sardines and Macs comes in...those are fun with sabiki rig and bait for butts, wsb and leopards..
clamming season is coming up in a couple of weeks too. :smt002

Been doing the Nick's Cove thing; really improved since years past when I visited.  Been crabbing and harvested some kelp.  thought clams and mussels were in season generally, thoug not sure what is legal in the Bay.  Found some wild-growing oysters but not tried to harvest any - not sure if legal.  Seen fish in the kelp, some kind of perch-like dark-colored critters.  Halibut would be wonderful; I understand the sandy transition areas [sand to rock, open to weedy] are best.

Lots leopards and rays around in tomales...just bring squid and hold on! As for the butts, bring a sabiki rig and try to make your own bait..tip it with small pieces of squid or shrimp...usually theres lots of smelt around which make good bait...try around hog island and in the deeper channel for the butts...goodluck and besafe out there, ricci.
