SoCal "Cabrillo" report and dumb question

Hi from L.A. again,   

I finally got OTW for the first time this year at Cabrillo beach, very near my house. Was only able to fish about 2 hours.  It was nothing to write home about but I FINALLY got back out.  It was quite warm, a beautiful day.  I caught 5 lizard fish and one tom-cod.  There were LOTS of birds but they were not feeding.  They were just sitting on the water like they were waiting for something. 

Here's the dumb question:  I wonder if these small lizard fish would work for halibut bait?  Seems like they would.  I posted the same question on a board down here. --  I wear my "newbe-ness" with honor.      Anyone ever use lizard fish for halibut bait?

Cool! 1st time i've seen a lizard fish.  Hope you find your answer. Wish the hali fishin was year round like u guys down south... jealous! Although i just read a report that halibut was high in mercury level, which bummed me out. Oh well, only caught 1 last year anyway. Keep postin.

Hali is an ambush fish and using their eyes' sight to spot preys,  therefore bright color fish like Shiner will attract them easier but most baits/lures will work if you dangling it in front of them.
