Just saw this on the norcalfishing.com site. Sounds like they're planting more trout this year than usual. I've never been there on opening day, but the fact that they're have two pre-opening days for vessel inspection makes me want to avoid it like the plague (though I do enjoy free doughnuts).   :smt001

"San Pablo Reservoir will be reopening from its annual winter closure on February 18th at 6:30 am. The launch ramp will be opened at 7:00 am.

We will be holding two pre-sale days, one on Monday, February 14th and the other on Wednesday, February 16th. Customers may purchase fishing licenses and annual passes, as well as get their vessels and trailers inspected. Coffee and donuts will be provided.

Finally, 10,000 lbs of trout will be planted throughout the week of February 14th. The fish, which come from the Mokelumne River Fish Hatchery, will be one pound in size. This is roughly four times the amount of fish normally planted prior to opening day!"

Thanks for the SP update.

I'll be hitting that lake this year since I'll be able to drop the little one off at Grandma's house behind Briones Res.

Only fished it once, caught a small crappie in the wildlife area.

I'll def. post a hookup if I go!

Would love to fish there with ya! I've only been there once, but it's right around the corner from my new apartment in the El Cerrito Hills, so it'll probably become my go-to spot for most weekends this year. I've heard the spotted bass bite was good there last year....

I've fished this reservoir twice. Once mostly for bass and once mostly for trout and did well both times. Got my first 5+ pound trout here:
6.5lbr

That was before I got my kayak. Don't know if I'll be there for the opener but I'll definitely be going this year.

Im luck enough to be 5 minutes away(tops)  :smt003. I've fished this reservior my whole life. It can be bitter sweet like anywere. but its looking sweeter and sweeter bye the day. As im sure alot of u know, They seismicaly retrofitted the dam. (A damn proccess that took about ten years :smt013.) In doing this they dropped the water level way down. Its back up to where it should be now at least 9/10ths of where it should be. ALOT of unfishable structure has now been submerged. Cant wait to see what it holds! my 2nd yak trip to san pablo got me in the whopper Club with a 13 pound cat(a fun slayride For a young boy). I would avoid it opening day due to the damn chaos. But the preserves are non gas motor so you would probably find that to be the best place to fish. Who knows spring and summer fun for sure. had some of my best Fishing days there. Give it a shot! post up! lets see what that dam place is holdin! :smt005
I like to have fun.......
