Here is my process and links for parts,
it is Pretty simple first I find some nice shells that have not ben beaten up by the surf and parasite's usually the small 5 to 7 inch shells works the best unless you can find that rare big one the north coast has not beaten up. I use this method to clean the shell up link
http://sites.google.com/site/abalone...nabaloneshells after all is said an done cleaning and oiling the shell with mineral oil I hit it with a quick clear coat make sure to get the non yellowing type
then I go on line to amazon.com and ordered couple of clock kits link

 Amazon.com: clock kits then I find the center of the abalone drill hole and put together very simple, I use supper glue to glue the numbers on, and clock mechanics.
