They eat them in Japan too. Don't worry, they're not that good. Kinda stringy..

Look up mantis shrimp on youtube.....those things are BRUTAL!!!

Thanks a lot.   :smt104

Not only brutal, but seemingly rather intelligent, thinking, adapting, and plotting it's next move.  I never knew a shrimp could be so smart or wreak such havoc.

Indeed! We're lucky we don't live in some reverse universe where they could grow to 10 feet long & prowl the beaches at night.
Same goes for octopi.

Fuzz and I were on our kayaks at SWS gearing up to dive when he mentioned this thread.  We both thought the OP was high or something.  So after a few dives we were about 10-12' apart on the surface just chatting when what do we see swim between us about 4' below the surface?  Yep, about 6" prawn that looks like a Mexican white shrimp.  Sucker was nonchalantly kicking it's little legs out for a Sunday morning stroll.

Fuzz and I saw him at the same time and he wanted to shoot it, but my free hand was already reaching out for it.  We had the same thought on our minds when we saw it: "oh this little guy is gonna taste so sweet back on the kayak..."  After a few unsuccessful grabs by me, the little shrimp has kicked itself to the top of the water over by Fuzz who snatches it by the antennas.  Unfortunately they broke as Mr. shrimp gives one last kick and disappeared as it swam around to Fuzz's back.

It looked just like the one in Jim's video link.
