I wonder how much profit they make.

Its all about displayed wealth, perceived value and social status bro.  If that thing breaks down to 6 bills a Lb then they can easily quadruple that price and market it as the most expensive BFT ever eaten.  Those who can afford it will show up in droves to buy it...to prove to themselves that they are worthy of only the best and to let others know that they roll like that.  I guarentee that there is big profit to be made and its all based on it being expensive. (The tuna is probably pretty good too)

I'm betting that the last BFT goes Mega....100's of M's....and we see it within our lifetimes.

Oddly, I am glad that they revere this fish so much - I hate thoughts of all the rotting fish at every Safeway...etc. around here.

That fish would never be rotting away at safeway....it'd be sitting on a shelf next to the sardines and salmon. 

I sincerely doubt they caught this fish in the Pacific Ocean as the article says.

I fear Art is absolutely correct. The perceived value is what will exterminate the wild Bluefin tuna.

Even if fishing them is made illegal, the fish will suffer the same fate as the black rhino, poached to extinction.

Atlantic Blue Fin Tuna will be something our grand kids only read about in history books. The fish will be wiped off the face of this planet in the next 20-50 years. A 4% cut in quota is a joke.
