Too pricey, I live a mile from Quarry Lakes and frequent the place, great place to kayak.  But with those prices its not too inviting.

I've sent off an email to volunteer to help out.  Maybe they'll give a discount?

I'm going to make an effort to get some family and friends out this year because last year didn't live up to it's potential.  I have to think the prices have something to do with it.  IMO they outta let people in for free in the hope of recoup on sales, and have some food venders, at least.

I agree.  Quarry Lakes is nice venue for the Paddlefest, but it's a little pricey.  Also, it doesn't make any sense to me to charge more for the seminars.  The ISE and other shows I've worked never charged a dime extra for seminars/classes.

I'll likely be working this show again for Hobie.

BTW... I wanna thank EricB and Adam "Fishunter" for helping me out last year.

Its cheaper if I paid for parking and launch fee $8 total.  Pedal over with my Hobie and land at the beach then sneak into to event  :smt002

You forgot the inspection fee.  And you didn't plan on fishing?

Got the inspection fee covered, I pay it monthly  They have a pretty cool staff there and let me use one inspection sheet for 2 kayaks.  Not sure about fishing that day yet.

I was there last Saturday and met Raymac the Quarry Lakes Grand Master Fisherman and a fine gentleman.  Fishing was decent for trollers mainly an early AM bite.

Gents - in the general scheme of things it is pretty cheap. If you pay the full $60 for the weekend you have the opporunity of taking on-water classes which would cost you upwards of $200 when taken from private outfitters such as ourselves. It's a bargain boys.

To clarify - There is NO extra charge for on-land seminars. The fee covers on-water classes and demos. Thus, you don't need to "sneak" into the event. If you do purchase a daily or weekend pass BAP is covering the beach fee so parking is the only other expense. We are working on food - that was a negative last year.

Finally, Living Social will be marketing a Half-Price offer in a couple weeks for the whole shebang! Can't beat that with a stick!

It would seem to me you'd want to attract the folks who always wanted to try it but never have.... or who maybe have never seen a SUP or SOT kayak... the type of people who might have their minds blown and drop the dough on the spot...  especially those who live nearby the ponds.

imo those type of folks are unlikely to pay even $30 to check out something that may not be for them.  But if it were free, I suspect all sorts of folks might stop in to check it out...  garage-salers, locals, bank fishermen, etc...

I mean, a hotdog stand would probably make as much money as they took at the gate last year.  Could probably even find some volunteers to run it for free.

...and can be found at:

http://livingsocial.com/deals/39654-adult-or-teen-pass-to-paddlesport-festival

This is half price. Please go viral with this info; send it to your groups, family members, friends, foes, facebook, message-in-a-bottle etc. We need good numbers this year so tell your friends to buy tickets, save some loot and enjoy the weekend, May 21-22.

There will be food available this year - no charge, but a donation to Support Strokes encouraged.

Beach fee is paid with ticket; your only other expense is parking.

That's it, hope to see you there. BAP is the ONLY industry wide paddlefest in California; without attendance it will go away. More info can be found at www.thebayareapaddlefest.org

Cheers - Keith
