Petaluma River kayaker 'unresponsive' after rescue
Dec 15, 2010
A man was rescued from the Petaluma River after capsizing his kayak Wednesday, but was reported to be “unresponsive” after being taken to the hospital, authorities said.
The Petaluma Fire Department, which assisted in the rescue, did not release the name or condition of the man, who was in his mid-sixties.
The incident took place shortly after 12:30 p.m., Petaluma Battalion Chief Russ Rasmussen said.
Reports came in of a man lying in the mud on the river's east shore. Bystanders used an aluminum boat to pull the man from the mud and transported him to the west bank, he said.
Fire crews provided basic and advanced life support, Rasmussen said, before transporting him in an ambulance to the hospital.
No further information was available late Wednesday.
