no sturgeon today

went out to paradise for 3 hrs in a friends boat today, soaked ghost shrimp, the 3 of us caught 2 stripers to 19" 2 little leopard sharks and a kingfish.

Chris, I also tried for sturgeon again with no luck at the Oakland Airport area.  Conditions couldn't have been nice thoughr -- flat calm and no wind all day, big outgoing tide.  Unfortunately, nothing by junk fish.  I caught over half-a-dozen small leopards and a few big kingfish.  Only couple shakers were caught out of the dozen boats around me.

Hi, Chuck - I am new to Oakland Intl Airport except that I was out once with you. How good was sturgeon hunting last year during this period, compared with this year? According to Fishing guide book by Ray R, sturgeon fishing is rated as 10/10 in San Pablo Bay and Carquinez Strait. Any other areas are rated below 10. I am not sure how reliable the rating is. Maybe you would need to concentrate on these areas. Hope you will hook one soon.

    Thats funny!  I own that book.  It was a christmas gift.  I never opened it.  I'm sure gonna when I get a chance.  Thanks for the report Chris, were you guys fishing that deep water south/east of the pier.  Its actually at a 45 degree angle from the right corner of the T of the pier.  Do you know the spot?  JTF..

the tide was ripping, so we tried to stay shallow, first we fished off the marin rod and gun club pier, then near the paradise harbor.

I agree with the book.  I personally have seen more sturgeon caught from San Pablo Bay than anywhere else... hence the name "Sturgeon Triangle".
But.... if you read recent reports on Coastside, you'll know why the Oakland Airport area is worth trying.
