Drove to work (Moss Beach) from Daly city today. Passed by Pacifica and not a single surfer in the water. It was a bit rough. Anyways, fastforward...... around 7pm we received a call that we're to receive a drowned patient in our Emergency unit. Paramedics/fire dept came with a a guy in a gurney. Only in his 30s. His wetsuit covered in sand. I knew right and then the guy was dead, but per protocol, we had to code him. In the end, we weren't able to revive him despite the efforts. From what I've heard he was from Hawaii. My condolences if you actually knew this guy. He was found in either Pacifica or HMB (I wasn't really paying attention to details). Please be safe out there. Life is too precious.

We drove down the coast on our way to Capitola this afternoon and was amazed at the surf. No slow rollers just constant pounding of the waves.

that sucks!

dont know that I could do your job without becoming completely numb to the world.  Thank you

I hope he said bye to his wife and kids before heading to Mavericks post tsunami/mid storm...

I would like to point out that even a group as close to hte water as surfers seem to forget just how forcefully unforgiving water really is...I know I try to use my good judgment and pucker-factor every time I get in/on the water...

I heard this on the KPIG surf report this morning. Sad story.
Dude has just won $25k as a surfer and spent some of that to fly here & surf the end of season swell at mavericks.
RIP Sion.

Makes me wonder how feasible it would be to incorporate a little pony bottle, maybe worn in a purpose built lumbar pack, in order to survive being held under for a couple of minutes. The diver's bottles contain maybe ten minutes of air, perhaps a smaller bottle could make an event like this survivable. Of course, I myself remain safe by staying out of 60 foot surf, so that's my approach. Sorry to hear of his passing, and for his family.
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

My brother and I were at Maverick's around 4PM. There were some surfers suiting up in the parking lot, and I'm guessing one of them was him.
Sorry to hear about this.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...
