I will be doing a little holiday travel and I plan to bring an ab to a friend of mine as a gift.  I'm wondering if there might be any problem taking abs on a plane.  I have done it before but that's 5 years ago.  With the tight screening these days I don't know if there is any problem that requires certain preparation.  Thanks.

My ab will be in shell as required by law, vacuum-packed, and frozen solid.

never taken an ab on a plane, hell still haven't eaten one.  I was traveling today and was thinking the same thing about some salmon i had in the freezer, but decided against it because of the possible hassle.  while i was at the airport i asked one of the tsa agents about bringing those blue frozen gelpacks on board and she said it was ok as long as they were frozen solid at the screening.  but that still doesn't sound right to me but if anyone else knows the answer i'd appreciate it also, mom wants crab for xmas

I just came back from WI with a carry-on full of 50 pounds of frozen venison.  No problem... of course they pulled the bag aside to unpack and inspect everything, but that was to be expected. (The Venison Bomber... can you imagine?)

The TSA website has a discussion about taking perishibles on the plane... basically it's fine to do... frozen and vacuum packed is ideal.  If you have perisibles in a checked bag, you have to declare that and sign a release form so the airline isn't responsible for spoilage.
