Being blind in one eye, I need to be very protective of my good eye, or kiss the kayaking goodbye. Anyone know of any local shops that sell Oakley or Sawfly prescription safety glasses? Or goggles that would fit over the eyeglasses? Oakley and Sawfly make products for the military.

I too only have one eye.  Uvex makes a good line of product, and available through grainger.  I usually just wear sun glasses for fishing. Shooting, that is another topic......

Ditto here. Blind in my right eye.

I learned the hard way a few years ago not protecting it well enough. Even safety glasses arent enough sometimes.

I was grinding a frame of a truck wearing safety glasses and still managed to get a small piece of metal in my good eye. But didnt notice it until about 4 days later. It started rusting and my eye got infected. I had to have my eye scraped and scrubbed. Then for 7 days keep it covered. So imagine being in bed for a week not being able to see a thing. Not fun!

Hojo... many opticians sell prescription safety glasses.  You'll know if they are rated as safety glasses if they have a Z87.1 stamped on the lens or frame.  Look around... you'll be surprised how many you'll find.

The lenses are mounted from the front so that they can't pop inward toward your face upon recieving an impact, and the lenses are rated to withstand a certain amount of impact force (a lot actually).

Have you tried their store location search yet?

Sweet!

You could try http://www.flyfishingoutfitters.com/Contact-Us too for oakley products.  One store is in San Francisco and the other in Sonoma.

That is why I just bring them in and have them weighed, you can't win a side bet by eyeballing the weight!

Thanks for the link (Yester), info (KZ), and other suggestions. Getting safety glasses was suggested by a V.A. doctor, but it took a second V.A. doctor to actually steer me to the optometry department for (free) safety glasses. Depending on what I end up with, i may still check out other sources for eyewear, depending on what activity I'm into.

And, quite honestly, I thought I was the only one-eyed member of NCKA. Was nervous about bringing up the subject.
