Looks like fun!
It would probably be easier on slower tides. Also, if you dive in the river, make sure you don't have a speargun. Technically you aren't allowed to have a spear within 100 yards of a river/stream mouth.

I dove Albion on the opener for crabs...Tons of small ones...and the current is really strong...even during slack tide...!!!...But i must confess...It was a BLAST...!!!

The depth was five to eight feet in the main channel.....

I dove for some red rock crab once in one of the little shallow coves in humboldt bay. Those suckers were hard to get ahold of. Was fun though.
