With more people standing up in kayaks for sight fishing and more SUP/kayak hybrids showing up, Ive been hoping that the paddle manufacturers will recognize and start producing paddles that can work as a standard 2 bladed kayak paddle with a detachable blade and attachable grip for the SUP stick.
All that Ive come across is the "taboo" from carlisle.  Im not bashing carlisle products, they are just on the heavier side and Im interested in something more evolved.
Has anyone stumbled across anything like this yet?

I just carved a greenland paddle that can do double duty at least thats what some of the pics show me. Not an ideal SUP paddle but if you had a yak that you wanted to SUP it should work.

Some mfgs might consider it along the same lines as a spin fishing/flyfishing combo rod. It works but the overall quality of either just isn't there.

I can understand that way of thinking. Just keeping it simple and doing one job great instead of 2 jobs just ok.The kayaking blades wouldnt be ideal for the SUP style either but I still believe that the technology and skills are out there to make this work.
Im hoping Werner will produce a handle that can attach where their standard paddle breaks down. Doesnt seem like it would be that difficult.
There also may not be a market     yet.

Id really be interested in seeing the greenland. Big respect for carving your own.
It kind of seems like one of the paddling rites of passage.
Did you use ash?
Feathered?
Im not sure using a greenland for SUP is for me but thanks for the idea.
Also I dont have the carving tools or skills and would probably want to get a carbon fiber that would be another expensive toy on a long list of "needs".

How is your transition going? or do you have prior experience with a greenland?

Most SUP paddles I've seen are crooked, that is, they have an angle between blade and shaft.

I suspect that a hybrid creation would be mediocre... but functional, to a point.
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

Your right Paul
The power gained and the early exit from that 14 to 16 degree bend is to valuable not to have, especially with the short " slap" style the SUP seems to require.
I have very little time on a SUP and ill need all the help I can get.
I have been spending alot of time on an Indo board this winter hoping it will help. We will see.
