Here are a couple of pictures of my new revolution with the fishfinder and a rod holder installed.  I used Ram mounts and mounted the fishfinder in a different location than I have seen before. The ram ball is side mounted just inside one of the mesh covered pockets.  There is still plenty of room to use the pocket.  I wanted it close to the seat where I could see it and punch the buttons without having to reach all the way forward to the mast mount.  I also didn't want to use the mast mount since I use a sail occasionally.  The rod holder is a model 117 from Ram.  It extends a little higher than most I have seen and it seems to be more adjustable than most due to its two pivots.

Nice job Martin. Have you had those Ram's rod holder or was it recently ordered?
Would you know how much weight pressure you can put on it? Just wondering
because you know that we troll with 12oz sometimes.

Hi jed,
I don't know the specs on the rod holder but I put a thick backing plate behind it and there are 5 stainless steel screws with washers and nylon insert locking nuts.  The mounting plate is pretty big.  It barely fits along the gunwall without hanging over and I mounted it in the widest spot.  It feels really sturdy and I can't see any flexing of the hull when I apply pressure to it.  I don't think the weight will be a problem.  I hope to try it out this week.  I have a posting for Tueday in hookups but I would also like to fish Friday if you and Dave are going out.

Hi Martin - How are the Ram 117 Rod holders working out for you?  I am planning on getting them for my Revo.

i put my FF in a similar place martin.  how did you run the wires?

i've used mine a couple times with no problems.  the ram holders worked fine and i was trolling 10 and 12oz all day yesterday.

I drilled a small hole and used a rubber grommet with some goop.  The wires run to the sail mast mount, where my battery box is strapped to the post.  It's easy to get to through the front hatch and the transducer sits in a cut out piece of boogie board that I fill with water.  I've been using it for about a year with no problems.  I use 8 AA batteries in a waterproof case.

I guess you never plan on paddling it eh? I still like to keep my rails clear in case I want to or need to paddle.

Lately I haven't been using the rod holder but it can be pushed down low enough to get out of the way for paddling.  The fishfinder can also be pushed forward and out of the way.   I recently had to paddle when my drive fin broke and it worked out fine.  I was surprised how well the Revo paddles.  That being said, I still prefer to pedal in most situations.
