Just got a kayak and want to try some fishing. Tomales bay or? halibut?
Know ziltch about salt water and no gear at this time so any guidance with tackle purchase and where /how would be greatly appreciated.

The article is pretty much what you need.  Hopefully, the guys who fish out of Tomales can provide some local intel.  Hope to see a report with some fish porn.  tight lines!

First off, congrats on getting yourself a yak. You are in some serious addiction brother!! :D

However, I do agree 100% with Eric. You better have another partner with ya on the ocean as it can get very dangerous and ugly, especially those new to this sport. There is a section for hookups, which would be ideal when looking for a fishing partner.

Good luck out there!! :D But before you head out, make sure that you also have ALL the necessary safety equipment before you touch water. If you ever decide to fish here in Monterey Bay, lemme know. I''d be happy to join ya :D

Hey thanks everyone for the tips and advice. Will read, buy and be ready to fish soon. yep good advice to venture out with someone experienced along.
I lived on the N. coast for a few years and joined the volunteer F.D. as an EMT. I've seen the results of bravado and inexperience.
Will be looking forward to meeting some of you fine folks.
